Tips to keep your hats looking their best!

As a photobooth company, keeping your props clean and sanitized is essential for maintaining a professional and hygienic experience for your clients. One of the most important aspects of prop maintenance is cleaning the hats, which can accumulate a variety of stains and odors from use. Here are some effective cleaning methods you can incorporate into your routine:

1. Peroxide Power:

  • Removing Stains: Peroxide is a versatile cleaning agent that can effectively remove spray tan, makeup, and other stains from your prop hats.
  • Brightening Whites: For white hats, spraying a diluted peroxide solution onto the inner rim can help brighten the fabric and remove any discoloration.
  • Safe for Colors: While peroxide is generally safe for colored fabrics, it’s always a good practice to test it in an inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn’t affect the colorfastness.
  • Application Methods: You can either spray the peroxide solution directly onto the hat or apply it with a rag.
  • My personal choice is a spray bottle peroxide.

2. Makeup Wipes:

  • On-the-Go Cleaning: Makeup wipes are a convenient addition to your prop box for quick cleanups during events. They can help remove light makeup stains and freshen up the hats between uses.

I like to buy them in bulk and keep a few in my prop box. I recommend these make up wipes.

3. Tide Pens:

  • Spot Cleaning: Tide pens are excellent for spot cleaning stubborn stains on your prop hats. Simply apply the pen to the stain and gently rub it in.

4. Disinfectant Spray:

  • Sanitizing After Events: After each event, it’s crucial to disinfect your prop hats to eliminate any germs or bacteria. Use a disinfectant spray that is safe for fabrics and follow the instructions on the label.

Additional Tips:

  • Regular Cleaning: To prevent stains from setting and odors from accumulating, make sure to clean your prop hats regularly.
  • Inspect for Damage: During cleaning, inspect the hats for any damage, such as tears or rips. Repair any damage promptly to ensure the hats remain in good condition.
  • Store Properly: When storing your prop hats, keep them in a clean and dry environment to prevent mildew and mold growth. For seasonal items, I store in a storage tub with silica packs.
